Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge celebrates its fifth anniversary
Since its debut on Oct. 24, 2018, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) has played a pivotal role in facilitating the integration of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area by boosting economic and trade growth and cultural ties.
Spanning 55 kilometers, the HZMB stands as the first super-large cross-sea transport project jointly implemented by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao.
Over the past five years, the bridge’s Zhuhai Highway Port has received 36 million cross-border traveler trips and 7.5 million vehicles, according to the Gongbei Customs District in Zhuhai, South China’s Guangdong province.
As of October 2023, the total import and export volume through the Zhuhai Highway Port exceeded 700 billion yuan ($98.2 billion).
From 2018 to 2023, a total of 19.8 million travelers from the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions arrived in and departed from the Chinese mainland through the port.
