Judicial departments urged to promote high-quality development of the GBA
A meeting on boosting the high-quality development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) through judicial services was held at the first circuit court of the Supreme People’s Court in Shenzhen on Feb.9.
At the event, Zhou Qiang, president of the Supreme People’s Court, urged relevant departments in the GBA to give full play to trial and judgment to boost high-quality regional development.
Zhou stressed that the judicial departments in the region should promote the convergence of judicial rules and mechanisms, further improve the judicial assistance mechanism, and fully leverage the rule of law in guaranteeing the high-quality development of the GBA.
Zhou also urged relevant departments to uphold judicial justice, strengthen guidance of judicial policies and typical cases, further advance reform of the trial mechanism relating to Hong Kong and Macao, and actively respond to the development needs of the GBA for opening-up and internationalization.
Zhou demanded that the judicial authorities in the region further improve the multi-party dispute settlement mechanism, strengthen the linkage of dispute resolution resources, improve the docking mechanism between litigation and commercial mediation institutions in Hong Kong and Macao, and strive to build an optimal location for international commercial dispute settlement in the region.
He also called for the deepening judicial exchanges and collaboration, exploration of the possibility of establishing a regular professional discussion mechanism, strengthening of research on Chinese rule-of-law culture, the leveraging of the advantages of legal talents in Hong Kong and Macao, development of a demonstration zone for in-depth cooperation between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong and Macao, and the enhancement of the international competitiveness of the GBA around the rule of law.
In addition, Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court and the Authority of Qianhai of Shenzhen set up a judicial research institute in the Greater Bay Area, which was inaugurated on the same day.
Before and after the meeting, Zhou paid fact-finding visits to the first circuit court of the Supreme People’s Court in Shenzhen, Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court, and Shenzhen Qianhai Cooperation Zone People’s Court.
