GBA sees fastest growth in research talent among major city clusters
The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area sees the fastest increasing speed of scientific research personnel among all major city clusters in China, according to a research report recently.
The research report on the high-quality development of Chinese city clusters was jointly published by the Research Institute for Eco-civilization of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Social Sciences Academic Press (China) in Beijing.
Although the GBA’s research talents account for 11.82% of the national total, compared with the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region’s 23.3% and the Yangtze River Delta region’s 21.26%, its annual growth rate, 12.87%, is the highest among the three, thanks to the GBA’s strengths in policies, funding and projects, the report said.
It points out the harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature is a symbol of the high-quality development of cities, and Chinese cities are seeing a dramatic increase in the output of high-tech industries and research.
Innovative talents and R&D funds are important input factors of scientific and technological innovation and strategic resources for the high-quality development of urban agglomeration.
According to the report, the Yangtze River Delta region has an early layout in low-carbon technological innovation, leading overall technology, and a sound industrial foundation. It suggests that the region should be built into a global carbon-neutral science and technology innovation center with international influence.
