Luo Yude, secretary of the Luohu District Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), paid a visit to the new Cuiyuan Experimental School on Wednesday morning to survey its COVID-19 prevention and control measures, coinciding with the start of the fall semester.

He urged all schools in Luohu to implement necessary epidemic prevention and control measures on campus and ensure the well-being of the students.

Covering an area of 42,707 square meters, the Cuiyuan Experimental School is one of the district government’s newly-built institutions, with a total investment of nearly 300 million yuan ($46.44 million). Having opened its doors on Wednesday, the school offers 1,800 seats for students from grade one of primary school to grade three of junior middle school.

During his visit, Luo inspected the classrooms, playground and multipurpose rooms while learning about preparation work for the start of the new semester, as well as general information about the faculty and students.

Luo considers schools an integral line of defense against the coronavirus, and emphasized the importance of standardizing prevention and control measures on campus.

At the same time, he encouraged the teachers to continually improve their teaching methods, and foster an ideal learning environment for the children.

Last year, Luohu invested 4.78 billion yuan in education, accounting for nearly half of its public service budget.

The district government regards education as its highest priority related to people’s livelihoods, and quality public education as one of the most important public services. The district has opened six schools and kindergartens with a total of 5,010 seats, so far this year.

Luohu has also proposed a three-year action plan to promote the application of advanced technology for teaching, alongside better teacher training programs.
